EA Sports FC: All you need to know

With EA's contract with FIFA expiring this year, FIFA 23 is the last of the iconic FIFA series. Luckily, EA's replacement, EA Sports FC, is launching later this year to continue to provide us with football on our consoles. But what exactly will this entail?

What's with the logo?

EA says that the logo represents the triangles that have been a part of football since the 70s when total football was popularised and have been a big part of the FIFA series from chemistry triangles in Ultimate Team to the indicator above the player's heads.

Why is EA replacing FIFA?

EA's contract with FIFA has expired, and they have decided not to renew it after the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (International Federation of Association Football), also known as FIFA, raised the renewal price from $150 million to $250 million a year. Meaning that for just 4 years it would cost EA $1 billion, and while FIFA is a hugely popular game the risk of loss is almost doubled.

What differences will there be?

EA has announced that EA Sports FC will contain more than 30 leagues, featuring over 700 teams. It'll have at least 19,000 players and 100 stadiums, as elements licensed by the UEFA, the FA, FAI and more will still be included in EA Sports FC. But since the deal with FIFA has ended, FIFA 23 will be the last game to include the FIFA World Cup.

Career mode, online?

As the entire game has yet to be announced, we can only speculate on how an online Career Mode could potentially work in EA Sports FC at this moment. Some fans have said they would love to see EA integrate the game mode into a PvP-style mode where various teams in a league are controlled and managed by other random players.

This, however, seems a bit of a stretch. It's more likely that we will see a more social mode introduced, allowing you and your friends to play together in a private league. This would involve inviting your friends to a particular league allowing each of them to occupy one club within the competition.

Whether you can use custom clubs in Online Career Mode remains to be seen.

Some fans of the renowned mode think the introduction of an online version could prove disastrous for the fan-favourite simulator.

Overview

It looks like almost all of the favourite modes from FIFA will be returning to EA Sports FC including,

  • Ultimate Team

  • Kick Off

  • Online Seasons

  • Pro Clubs

  • Career Mode

And more remain unconfirmed. The price of EA Sports FC seems like it is going to be similar to the cost of the FIFA games.

In the end, players who are considering buying it because it's an entirely new game to FIFA, it's not, as many of the modes, players, and other elements are migrating from FIFA to EA Sports FC. To players who are thinking of not getting it because its changes are going to ruin the game, the same points stand. EA Sports FC seems like it will feature improved changes while still keeping the classic EA FIFA feel.
